Can anyone explain what IDE ATA SATA and SCSI are. I need to buy a new external drive, but it must also be an IDE drive, but I am unsure about what ATA SATA and SCSI refers to.

the old origanal drives up to about 2 years ago were ide. The latest are sata2 which use a different connecting ribbon cable and power cables.

scsi was a very expensive connecting system which was never very popular and is virtually unused these days.
