Hard drive failure imminent?

I have a 6 year old pc with Norton Utilities. Norton is frequently throwing up the message "Physical disk errors detected on drive", but running a full disk doctor scan shows no problems at all. Are the odds on the disk being at fault or the scan giving a false positive?
I was shopping around for a replacement anyway, so it only has to last a few more weeks, but I don't want to risk loosing what's on the drive.

6 years old. Well, it owes you nothing. I think a replacement would serve you well before the dreaded "whine". But, it's up to you.
