Hard Drive Errors in Event Viewer

I've been having a couple of nigs with a couple of hard drives.

My Boot Drive which is a WD 80gig and a Samsung F3 1tb for my Programs and games.

I was noticing a slowness in performance, and I decided to take a peak in event viewer:

I followed the info from this link: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=262448

The problem still remains I'm thinking it's a fault with the hard drive?

With the other Drive via event viewer it's on about that the drive needs an update of firmware found the drive in question:

I download the file and burned the file onto disk didn't work (Not booting from the Disk)

What is your opinion on this?

I was noticing a slowness in performance

What type of drive IDE or SATA

It appears from Event Viewer tat its not the disks but more likely the controller (motherboard item / software)

if IDE look in device manage for the IDE primary and secondary controllers and see what mode they are using to actually notice the slowdown its likely dropped to PIO mode rather than using UMDA mode 2-5

Try updating your motherboard drivers especially the sata drivers

Also check the sata cables worth changing for the lockable type I found that mine (6.5 yr old medion) kept working loose and the system would freeze occasionally, not had a problem since renewing the cables, only cost a couple of quid.

Thanks - I use the lockable type had these cables for about 3 years or so ile investigate this.
