Hi i have a major problem with my PC i tried turning the pc on one day and the pc said hard drive fail when detecting IDE. I inserted the windows XP Cd and tried to repair and it states no hard drive is installed. I first thought the hard drive had packed up so i installed a spare hard drive which works fine in my other pc and the same problem arised where it wont detect the hard drive and xp says no hard drive is present. I have also tried replacing the ribbon cable but no joy.

Can anyone help?

Try a different power connector - in the (unlikely) event there's something wrong with the one currently in use.

Check the BIOS settings.

Disconnect any optical drives, and try the drive on the secondary IDE cable.

Possibly the motherboard IDE channel is faulty.
