hard drive detection on newly built computer

in my new built computer the time had come to instal an o/s,but first, do all the bios stuff.when i got to the ide hdd auto detection all i got was 15 beeps whilst a pop up said detecting hard drive.after the beeps, nowt, in the capacity heading a big fat zero.all my cabling has been checked so could it just be a faulty hdd.your thoughts on the matter would be gatefuuly received.

Beg, Steal or borrow another Hard Drive to confirm if the PC can access any hard drives !!

Have you set the jumpers on the drive correctly ?

If you have installed the CD-Rom disconnect this whilst trying the hard disk detection.

probably a silly question, but are the ide controllers enabled in the bios?
If in doubt, try setting the bios to optimum performance settings as a test, there is usually an option to do this.

Again, silly question, but check the following...
Blue connector on ide cable is in motherboard.
Black connector on hard drive
grey connector on cd if on same cable, if on seperate cable, it must be the black one.

Make sure the power connector is pushed in tight.
