hard drive connection

I am putting in a second hard drive, the PATA 39pin plugs are coded blue at one end and black at the other, which one fits the drive or doesn't it matter?
I am connecting it into a spare socket in the middle of the existing cable which is from drive one. I still need to get a gender changer as the new cable is female/female.
Any snags??

“The PATA 39pin plugs are coded blue at one end and black at the other, which one fits the drive”

The blue connector goes to the motherboard

“I still need to get a gender changer as the new cable is female/female”

Why would you need a gender changer

All connection on the cable should be female and all the connection on the drives are male

If the calbe is a single drive cable get a double drive cable

All understood, yes now realised the connector in the middle goes to the second hard drive, I thought I needed another cable from there to the drive, but it is long enough.
