hard drive change

I am about to change the hard drive in my laptop
before i give it away

but i dont have a operating disc for it as when it was new it automatically starts itself and doesnt require discs to start.

is there a program i can download and save to discs which i could use to install a operating system into the laptop once i have installed the new hard drive into it.

or maybe i could create a operating disc from the laptop before i take out the hard drive

tha hard drive contains sensitive info hence changing it before giving it away

thanks for any help

Most pc's these days come with an option to restore them to factory condition (from an image on a hidden partition)

Far easier than what you're considering doing

You got any literature with the laptop? Or contact the manufacturer.

You could always try installing a Linux operating system on it instead. There are a lot of Live CDs which you can download to try out the Linux OS before permanently installing it onto the hard drive.
