Hard drive case...fan needed?

  nick_j007 17:55 09 Dec 05

Hi all,

Looking into a hard drive case for a 3.5" 160 gig HDD (Ultra ADA). I see some come with fans, and some others not. Ideally, I would choose no fan for a quiet environment...do you feel it necessary though?

Also, whilst I have a few links, anyone point me to a good online source to shop for such a case?

Many thanks.

I don't think it's neccecery to have a fan. If you go for one and you are still unsure get a heat monitor program to monitor it, and if it does go wrong just take it back! It wont take a week to find out!

Are thinking of an enclosure (for fitment into a 5.25" bay) or a caddy for external use?

i use Komplett click here for a fan to put in the back of the PC so it extracts air out of the PC, so the air is sucked from the PC

Looking at a caddy for external use.

Thanks Freddog.

Depends on how long you want to use, mie gets quite hot (no fan) after a few hours.

Next caddy I buy will have fans.

I got a caddy with fan from Maplins. A bit more expensive but very good quality.

Look here click here for a reasonably priced USB 2 caddy with fan.
