Hard disc versus Memory stick Query

  gel 07:30 24 Jan 11

It is very convenient to keep my documents on a USB memory stick so that I can access them from desk top or lap top and work on them.
I have the same programmes on each computer
Can this cause problems and are there any disadvantages?
I back up the documents to the hard drive on the desk top weekly

No problems at all.
Having user files on a memory stick means they are safe if the PC/HDD with the backups fails or gets stolen etc.

Memory sticks can fail, as long as you back up regularly you should not lose more than a weeks work of work. Mind you, I am using some USB memory that is about 4 years old and it is still OK, just be careful how you put them into the other computers, the most common failure is mechanical - the pins come detached from the PCB inside due to board flexing.

Thank you
That is good news and makes things much more convenient
