Handycam Software won't load in (WINXP) PMB

Recently had a Sony handycam SR10E, and tried to load the software into the pc (my desktop)"Picture motion Browser" (PMB)WON'T detect my camera, and can go no further, thus I can't get movies on to my desktop (It didn't come with firewire cable, just DV to USB)

Anyone else come over this prob?, looked at sony's website but can't see anything.

The above problems don't apply to my laptop, which installed without an hitch (Sony Vaio "Vista 32"). Could it be a "SONY" thing? or perhaps, you can only load software on one PC?. The camera detects USB when connected though, so cables/ports seem ok. Pinnacle Studio 9 won't detect it either, but does that work withfirewire - and not USB's?
