Had virus, used system restore-Is this ok?

My friend has today opened something he downloaded and it turned out to be a virus that AVG recognized after it was opened, luckily he had made a system restore point before opening it so after AVG had identified it he went back to the system restore point, deleted the item he downloaded, updated AVG and is now running the scan.
Is there anything else he should be doing please? (other than to stop downloading suspect items)

Viruses can hide in system restore points but if the restore points was BEFORE the virus was downloaded he should be OK.

Always worth doing an online scan to cover anything AVG may miss and also scan with Antimalware like Malwarebytes or SuperAntispyware.

Thank you, and i will.
May i ask what you mean about an 'online scan'?

Thank you so much, once again!

Personally, I wouldn't like the idea of a virus somewhere in my system. I would get rid of the virus. System Restore is best used for software conflicts.

Yes but he is also using AVG to check its gone.
