Graphics problems

NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro

I have the above graphics card installed but, since I had to format my pc and reinstall everything, the screen is all jerky, esp when viewing web pages.

I have tried to download the updated drivers from NVIDIA, but they refuse to install. I get the following mesage:

"Error: The NVIDIA setup programme could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit"

Well the same setup worked just fine pre reinstall, so what could have changed?

After the format and reinstall of your OS did you use the motherboard drivers installer disc?

  mooly 07:53 28 Jul 09

NVidia drivers are a real problem, I had the same issue (Vista notebook) in trying to "force" a driver on to the system... same message.
Have no idea whether XP does this but in device manager under display adapters, first "check for updated driver" in my case it said the most up to date was installed (Generic driver, jerky graphics... no accelerators etc).
Just going from memory now... there is an option (tick box ?) to check for "compatible hardware" or something... all on the update driver tabs, and you can find a list of MS drivers (NVidia ones) that will install by selecting them.
Obviously create a restore point first. I got a driver to install this way with no problem, yet that same driver wouldn't install from a file from NVidia. Sorry can't be more precise on exactly how to do it... if you can even on XP.

Thanks for that Mooly, I'll give it a go if the pc will stay stable enough for long enough.

rdave13, no I didn't as I don't have the disc. I'll download it from the manufacturers site and give it a go.

I ran Driver Detective before the format and downloaded latest versions of all out of date drivers, kept them on slave HDD, so I would have thought they would be ok to install.

  yogibear 09:58 28 Jul 09

Well, I can't find out what the motherboard is because the system hangs just sfter boot up. Bloody annoying.

  Bob The Blob 11:52 28 Jul 09

Open the pc and look at the motherboard for the name.

  yogibear 17:11 28 Jul 09

Well, sussed out what the mobo is. QDI Legend K7VM400M with a VIA chipset: northbridge KM400, southbridge 8237/8235.

Website is Chinese and some of the download links don't work, there's no facility for contacting them either.

So, has anyone out there got the CD that comes with this particular mobo please?

  Bob The Blob 20:23 28 Jul 09

Have you run windows update? This could install a few of the drivers for you.

  yogibear 20:37 28 Jul 09

Bloody hell, sorry about this but I must look like a real nutter!

Besides my pc being a tad iffy, I've also been working on my lads pc which I've just had to format. Seem to have the two of them lumped together on the same thread, sorry. Just lost job and head all over the place.

Mine is the one with the MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD MS-7142 1.00

Yes, I've run windows update and it's all up to date, just this graphics prob. I got a new monitor for Chrimbo, and thought this could be the problem but been in touch with the manufacturer and they say it only needs drivers when it goes on a Vista system.

So I'm left with the graphics card which won't update from the manufacturers site.

  Bob The Blob 12:57 29 Jul 09

That graphics card is so old now, it came out in 1999. Why don't you just get a new cheap graphics card?
