graphics device driver error in windows xp

Built my 2nd computer the other week....Tried to be a tight wad and do it on a budget.My Motherboard is a pc chips M848A,Processor AMD Athlon XP 2500+, 512mb crucial mem,Maxtor 60GB 7200 Hard Drive....XFX geoforce 4 MX440.(agp8x).My operating sysem is MS XP PRO, I know the graphics card was a budget buy but it had good reviews. So I had computer up and running,after about 10 mins error box comes up with graphics device driver error.Downloaded latest drivers from XFX site ,still no joy.get to the point where you boot up and computer just shuts down. E mailed XFX site for help...haven,t bothered to reply...Any help to point me in the right direction would be appreciated.
