Graphics cards

Recently I posted a Help request regarding the game Ancient Wars - Sparta which would not install on my PC. I have now discovered that I do not have the correct graphic card and require a minimum of an nVidia GeForce 6600GT or an ATI Radeon X800 Pro with 128MB memory or better to run the game. Now as far as this goes I am totally PC illiterate! I have found a card PNY GeForce 7200GS 128Mb PCI-E Graphics Card and I am told to place this advanced graphics card into my PCI-E slot. OK now I'm lost. My PC is an E-Machine 5260. Does anyone have any idea where I would find this PCI-E slot? Any help would be most appreciated.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think your E-Machine 5260 has a PCI-e slot. You can check though. Open the side panel furthest from where the USB slots are at the back of the computer. Have a look at the motherboard. There will be 2 or 3 long white connectors near the back of the case. These are the PCI slots for add on cards. If you have a PCI-e slot it will be a long black connector between the PCI slots and a device with an aluminium heatsink. click here.

Looks like they did your pc's motherboard in 2 flavours, one with and one without a pci-ex x16 slot.

I have my fingers crossed

If you do have the requisite slot, I'm still not convinced the card you've bought is up to the job. I suspect you'll need a 7600 based card or similar if that's the minimum requirement

from what i can find it is a basic setup using onboard graphics thus your problems. it would seem to be an oldish system but to confirm what you have download this small advisor tool. this will confirm what your motherboard has on it and its model and then post your findings here again

Board: Intel Corporation D915GAG AAC87709-302

If the link I posted earlier is correct, your board should have a PCI-express x16 slot.

It's the one nearest the processor socket. If you look at the pictures of the boards with and without the slot, it's obvious.

Thanks keef66 and thanks to all others who responsed.

i think this may be a more realistic setup of your motherboard and nowhere does it mention pci-e as a graphics slot. look at the link it appears there is only onboard graphics. those boards do not match the codings from your report and therefore are quite likely to have different specs. the "GAG" after the 915 refer to a specific motherboard and these have different letter groupings suggesting different boards. think carefully before you buy anything and make sure you have done your research

  keef66 19:49 28 Feb 08

have another read of your link; under expansion slots it says one PCI-express x16.
