Graphics Card update

About 4 years ago I bought what was then a cutting edge PC which has an Asus A8N SLI deluxe motherboard, AMD 4800X2 CPU and 2 GeForce 7800 GTX graphics cards in SLI together with 4mb of PC2700 DDR RAM. The PSU died and was replaced with a BFG 800W unit.

I want to upgrade the graphic cards but have a slight problem as an Evesham engineer fif a repair in warrenty where a small fan on the motherboard was replaced with a big heat sink which blocks one of the PCI-e slots from taking a two slot wide card.

I am considering 3 options, the cheapest being two single slot 9800 GT cards in SLI, the second going to the latest GTX 285 or whether to go all out for a GTX 295.

Any advice would be welcome as I am confused by all the stats etc.

I would not spend £400 + on an old pc, a ati 1g 4870 would be my choice.
