My PC performance is not what it should be.
The Vista Experience/Performance Index has dropped from 2.5 to 1, and the pc has dropped into PC Pitstop's bottom 28% since the graphics card was "upgraded" on advice to -

ATI Technologies Inc Radeon 9250 (RV280)
GPU Information :
Number of GPU : 1
Codename : RV280
Bus : 128-bit
Memory Type : 256 MB DDR
GPU Frequency : 238.5 MHz - [initial : 240 MHz]
Memory Frequency GPU : 200.25 MHz - [initial : 200 MHz]
DirectX Support : 8.1

Is there anything I can do to boost the performance of the card, or the way the card works with the pc?
If not, whats the best value-for-money replacement card that's compatible?
I have a spare GeFORCE4 MX440-8x

The pc spec is:

Have you installed the drivers for the new card?

After saying that I can't see any drivers for that card on ATIs site, it must be quite an old one.

The 9250 driver is available on the ATI website, but is only xp compatable.
That's the reason for your poor performance.
You will need a Vista compatable card.

I think you have an AGP slot so the Sapphire Radeon HD3850 AGP 8X at £82 probably has the best peformance click here but is not available at the moment (stock due in today).

or

XFX GeForce 7600 GT AGP 8X at around £32 gets a good review also but I can find any at the moment.

Both the above come from reviews in a recent edition of Micro Mart.

You can download a Vista driver from here.
It's free if you watch a few adverts first or you can make a donation and skip the ads.

Thanks everyone.
I'll try the drivers first then perhaps splash out £32 if necessary!

The driver loaded is ati 6.14.10.6458
