Graphics card and Monitor

I've just bought a used Sapphire X1600 with driver CD. When I attached the monitor lead to the blue socket at the rear of this new card the dispaly won't work. It does on the old card. The PC has another blue monitor socket but this doesn't work with either graphics card. I'm not very well up on PC type problems.

you need to tell us a bit more, whats the monitor, is it digital or analogue? what is the pc make? what was the old card? did you put card in same slot as old card, etc etc.

I'm not too sure on most of those questions. The screen is a new one and flat. I've no idea what the old card was and the new one went in the same slot. Sorry I can't provide much more info.
