How can I check that my graphics card is correct specification, i.e 128mB?

If ur using winXP just got to system information. It will probs tell you in there. I would imagine though, if you bought a 128MB card you got a 128MB card

Start > RUN > Type DXDIAG > Click "OK" > Look at the DSIPLAY tab.
