if ya have nvidia integrated graghics would it matter if you went with a ati card like would matter at all?

No, providing you disable the onboard gfx, it doesn't matter if you install nvidia or ati (also, make sure you have the right card for your slot pci-e or, agp).

Not a problem. Wise to completely uninstall the drivers for the onboard Nvidia before inserting the new ATI card and loading new drivers.

As vinnyT points out make sure you have either a PCI Express slot or an AGP slot. If you don't you cannot upgrade. And PCI Express is completely different from PCI. Don't get the two confused.
