Got a problem with Plusnet - need some help

I have a max dsl up to 8MB connection with Plusnet. Prior to the upgrade I had a 2.2MB connection which consistently gave me download speeds of between 1900 and 2020 kbits/sec. I have been embroiled in a debate with Plusnet about why my connection now only gives me a speed of around 1200 kbits/sec max when my line is rated at 4MB and my package gives me an up to 8MB connection speed. After initially telling me that the problem was at their end, Plusnet have retracted that and say that my line is only rated at 1728 max - I cannot believe that for a number of reasons:
1. I used to get 2MB speed no probs
2. Other ISPs I have contacted tell me that my line is rated at 4MB
3. Plusnet themselves told me that my line was rated at 4MB.
Plusnet seem unable or unwilling to fix this or explain to me why they can't and I am now sorely tempted to switch to another ISP. Before doing so I have one thought - I have not changed my modem since I was receiving 2MB download speeds it is a BT Voyager 205 - is it possible that it cant handle the higher speeds - it seems unlikely to me but if anyone has a view I would like to hear it.

....and am suffering exactly the same.

I should be able to get 4.5mb, but I'm currently at 1mb and have very rarely got the same speed as my pre max'd connection.

Before being max'd I got a perfect 2mb stable connection.

I'm off to Sky Broadband soon as my exchange is LLU'd so I save a load of cash. Sky (Easynet as they are) can't be any worse than plusnet at the moment.

presently with plusnet, running 2m fine, recently requested upgrade to maxdsl, do you think this might be a mistake, and that i should stay where i am?? susposedly my line will support up to 6m

... I wish I'd stayed on normal 2mb. Have a look at the plusnet forums as there is plenty of reading (of tales of woe) there.

What is your sync/connection speed? What are your line stats currently? This tells you how to get them if you don't already know. click here

I'm not saying that the fault is at your end but we need to rule it out. Where do you connect your modem, to the main BT socket or an extension? This tells you how to eliminate wiring problems. click here

Your modem is I believe able to handle the higher speeds but many have had problems and resorted to using a router.

Up to 8 Meg, is much more fickle than 1 or 2 Meg connections and a line that performed faultlessly prior to upgrade could have problems post u/g.

my line stats ar below. I'm syncing at 3.7 but only getting 1mb. At best I get around 2ish even though synching over 3.5mb

I too am having trouble with F9. I was upgraded to 8 Meg on June 9 and everything perfectly untill last weekend when lots of people lost connection for 5 days, when it was restored a couple of days later my 8 Meg dropped to 192 Kbps overnight. Many calls later some taking 1 hour and fault details being looked into with the support staff I am still on 192 Kbps after 5 days. They adviced me to buy another splitter which I did it made no difference at all.
I have Voyager 105 and I noticed an earlier post querying whether a Voyager 205 would be supported, my 105 worked for approx 7 weeks until this later trouble.
Any idea if an 105 update would help, I downloaded one off the Voyager site but haven't run it yet, any harm in trying it??
