got 32bit want 64bit as well

I have Vista 32bit installed, sp1, all works fine.
I have a blank partition which I want to install Vista 64bit version onto.

When I install everything goes ok, I can use 64bit, select which os to boot, great.

When I use Windows update, 57 updates, it all goes wrong. As soon as system reboots, I can only use 32bit version.

Anyone help, please.

I assume you are using a separate disc to install the 64 bit version, although both 32 and 64 bit versions are both on retail disk you can only install one. Can we clear this up first.

I have one retail disk for 32bit and one retail disk for 64bit, two differant licenses. Sorry for not getting back sooner.

OK so you are saying that when you reboot you lose the option to choose, have you tried booting from 64 bit disk to try and do a start up repair. Its the screen after you select country and language. Don't click on install now but look for repair option which is on the left near the bottom from memory. Choose startup repair and see what happens.
