google chrome name resolution error

  Ikarus 17:39 13 Feb 14

On starting my desktop this morning I could not connect to the internet despite indications that all connections were functioning and technically I was connected. The error message which came up was "name recognition error". This seems to have happened after downloading the latest M/soft updates but I can't be sure about that.

Indications are that this has been experienced by others but no one seems to have found the answer. I am running Win 7 64 bit and currently doing scans for malware and virus. I have a netbook and this is functioning normally connecting to the internet as usual.

Has anyone any suggestions as to what to try?
