Gonna need to buy a new PC

  TommyRed 21:29 16 Nov 03

There's nothing wrong with mine, 550 PIII with 256Mb RAM but the daughter's rung from Uni tonight and needs a PC for mainly MS Word type stuff and I assume presentations. So we thought she could have this PC and we'd get a new one.I quite like the sound of the Dell Dimension 2400 but I just need to clarify something for my lad. He needs about 800Mhz to play certain games so is this Dell PC up to it ie is the 2400 the Mhz that he'd need, also be obliged if anyone can point me in the direction of similar or better deals. Must be with monthly terms as I'm disabled on benefit. Cheers TR

If you need a pc to play games on then you need to check what graphics card is fitted. an ati radeon 9600pro would be my suggestion as the minimum you should consider(thats whats in my pc and it only just copes with some new games!).
A 2400 speed rating should be more than enough in terms of cpu capability

yeah i agree, i use a radeon 9200 with 256 ddr, the more ram on gfx card the better for playing games. and mine runs fine even with the tougher spec games.

is it this one by any chance? click here

compared to your current system it will fly

it has onboard graphics which are not the greatest for gaming but they can always be upgraded in the future and will probally do just fine at lower resolutions.

another 256 of ram + budget graphics card and if you use a digital camera etc a larger hard disk would be good.

all can be added as and when.

I'm at the moment just shopping round to find the best deals, so if anyone knows of any, please let me know . TR

  TommyRed 22:30 16 Nov 03

No, this is the one I was looking at click here my only concern was with the graphics card, will it play 3d games though perhaps as you say with lower resolutions. I also liked the pentium 4 processor which I assume would be better than a Celeron.TR

  hugh-265156 22:45 16 Nov 03

i think it looks a nice little machine and would say it will play most games just fine.

intel extreme onboard click here im told these do quite well for onboard graphics.

as above you can always upgrade later if you want.

Thanks for that, know of anyone else doing deals? Unfortunately can't wait for the Jan sales, cos she needs it now. Reminds me of someone I know. TR

Thanks for that, information is power, as they say. What have you heard of emachines from Currys, there doing a Intel Celeron 2.6Ghz processor, 256Mb DDR RAM, 80GB hard drive, CDRW & DVD-ROM, 64Mb Intel extreme graphics 3D, 6 USB connections, MS Works 6.0 & XP Home Edition with15" TFT minitor and HP Printer(don't know which model) for £699.99. What do you think? It's got for hard disk space than the Dell but less memory (which can always be added later). TR
