gone floppy!

hi,my floppy is not showing up in my computer.
it says its working ok in device manager,but i cant send anything to it and it wont read anything i put in it.
all connections are ok.
also(off topic),i`ve seen motherboards advertised with no backplates at cheeper prices.can i modify another one to fit or can it be used without one?

Check in BIOS that drive A is set as 1.4 Mb 3.5".

If Device Manager says it's there as the correct type - then it's very likelt faulty. They cost absolute peanuts to replace.

Check the cables first though.

PS - The fact that Device Manager says it's OK means very little - just that it's actually been detected, and the software to run it appears OK. There is no test actually run on the drive at any point.
