Can anyone help

One of my friends has a little problem with his PC.

He has what appears to be a GIUH proxy trojan but comes up as GIUH Proxy Trojan and he cannot remove it. He has formatted the PC twice already. He then reinstalls XP Home then his Graphics card and Sound Card and this thing pops back up and keeps closing al of the windows down. He ran AVG Free and that detected the GIUH proxy trojan. He has tried SHIFT-DEL to delete it, using AVG and emptying virus vault. It keeps popping back up.

He is running XP Home. GeForce 6600 Graphics Audigy 2 soundcard.

Any help or site assists would be great.

You guys are great for these sort of things.

Cheers again

Google doesn't shout explanations for a GUIH trojan, and you say your friend has reformatted twice!
Either this was not a true format (wiped clear of everything) or your friend has something very nasty and rare.

Try either a proper (no shortcut) format.
Or booting to safe mode and see what can be found and deleted from there.

IF NOTHING works, then download HiJackThis click here run it from his HD and cast yourself on their merciful willingness to help. from click here
You will need to send a log to this forum, and be patient, but I hope you will clear the problem sooner.

I'm off to look at it directly, but i didn't also find nothing for GIUH trojan, but i did find GIU (named Gullible Internet User) trojan. Will investigate that also.

I'll be doing a Hijack This Log anyway - my first port of call normally (after an Antivirus & Adaware scan).

Also just found out that he didn't have any firewall running (SP2 installed but it wasn't active), no spyware guard (his home page has also been hijacked)

No matter how many times you hear the words - PROTECT YOUR PC. It still finds a deaf ear to fall onto.
