In Device Manager (Win 98) USB ports show with yellow “!”. Have tried all sorts to clear this, to no avail. Mobo is Gigabyte GA-71XEH which has 2 USB1 and 2 USB2 ports.
Had used USB1 for a time with a JamCam, but camera developed fault and wouldn’t work on USB or parallel. Changed to Umax AstraPix 420 camera (USB1 only) and can’t get the USB port to work. Camera outputs ok to TV. Tried USB with printer and that doesn’t work either. Does this suggest mobo fault? Appreciate any help. Sorry to be longwinded.

I've just return a Gigabyte GA-7VTXE+ Mobo. Both the back two USB ports wouldn't work that's after 3 month's working ok.
Tested in shop they said there was a problem and changed mobo for a new one.
The problem i had was same as you are having take it back m8.

the yellow "!" mark indicated a conflict del the usb universal serial bus controler from device manager. re boot have you win 98 CD ready connect and reload drivers.
