.gif files ?

  Furkin 12:00 30 Nov 10

A friend has just sent me a .gif file (a text form).
When I click to open it, it says "this file has no program associated with it. Create one in Folder Options".
I went to folder options, clicked NEW & typed in .gif.
I thought that would do it, but I still get the same message.
I have checked in the fol;der options, & gif is listed there.
I have Photoshop etc, but don't get as far as being able to do anything with it.

Any ideas please ?

If XP try the fix for .gif files click here

Instead of clicking New you should just scroll down the list of registered file types - .GIF is already on the list. Highlight it, and select the program you wish to open with.

But VoG™'s solution should work for you.
