Getting into Safe Mode

  jessej 14:55 11 Apr 06

Recently I had to do some work on my son-in-laws computer which involved having to go into Safe Mode.
Problem, I was unable to get there using F8, or any other key that I tried, the only way I could boot into Safe Mode was by using msconfig, BOOT.INI and changing the boot order.
Is this normal or have I been missing something?
Sorry, I don't know what motherboard is installed.

Can be a bit tricky getting the timing right, need to start tapping the F key after post but before Windows starts to load normally.
May be F8 or even F5

Many thanks for your replies.
I tried both F8 and F5, neither worked and, as I said in my post, had to do it the way which is shown by VoG, except that I did not know that that was the recommended way, so I've learnt something.
Thanks again.
