Getting a DVD-ROM to spin slower

  Maiden. 10:34 04 Jun 08

I have a Samsung SATA DVD-ROM drive in my PC. It's pretty good but is a little on the noisy side when spinning games DVD's (not so bad with CD's).

My previous drive had a control on the front to regulate the speed of the drive but this one doesn't. As I'm not too bothered about how long info transfer takes but am VERY bothered by any PC noise, is there any way I can configure the drive to spin slower for DVD's?

Running Vista on a Compaq rig.

Many thanks in advance

fit new drive?

This is one that replaced the stock (even noisier !) one !

Suppose it begs the question, is anyone aware of a quiet SATA DVD drive?

Samsung MagicSpeed seems to only work with CDs click here

Don't get an Optiarc AD-7201S, very noisy in use.

Agree - looks exactly what I'm after. I'll give it a bash this evening and see how it goes.

Thanks all for the usual speedy answers !

Just checked my Nero Ver6 and there it is! Nero Drive Speed along with Nero CD-DVD Speed, in the Nero Toolkit drop down menu.

Nero 6's SmartStart (Extras section) includes a Control Drive Speed facility and the means to test a drive's performance.
