Get rid of xp sign in box before startup

  naggis 14:52 20 Mar 04

I have just installed an xp upgrade which opens a box requiring a sign in before it will start xp. I am the only registered user so there shouldn't be a problem with deciding who is going to use Windows. Can I get rid of this box and allow xp to open automatically as it did before the upgrade?

You can use the following steps to enable automatic logon without editing the registry in Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Professional (not joined to a domain):

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type control userpasswords2, and then click OK.

3. In the dialog box that appears, clear the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer check box, and then click OK.

I tried this but xp "Cannot find userpasswords2".

The command to type into the Run box is

control userpasswords2

VoG - that seems to have fixed it. Hopefully xp will now load automatically.
