Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Error

Almost each time I boot up my PC I get an error "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close" The offer to report this is made, and the report triggers a 'more info' response, directing me to the Microsoft.com Download site. A fix, KB927891 is offered, but when I download this and start to install it, a message shows "Setup has detected that the Service Pack version of this system is newer than the update you are applying. here is no need to install this update".

I installed SP3 a few weeks ago in an attempt to solve this problem once and for all, but the problem appears immune to SP3, other than to recognise it is there and by inference, that the Win32 problem should not occur.

Can anyone advise what the Win32 problem means, and how I can fix it please?

Earthsea -thanks for the tip. I downloaded the Antispyware software but it found no threats.

Yplanet - thanks, but I am bang-up-to-date with versions according to MS.

But before doing anything else, have you tried a system restore to a point before it started happening? Might be the easiest solution.
