Generic Host Process for Win32 Services .....

  Mannanan 16:13 15 Apr 05

Help please!

My sister, who I am only able to assist on the telephone, has this error on startup:

"The Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close"

Her Firewall (Sygate) always loads but is immediately shut-down with an error window which comes & goes so quickly, it is not possible to read it. Her XP Firewall is enabled ok.

She uses AVG's AV, Spybot and M/Soft's Beta AntiSpyware which does not report anything.

O/S - Win XP Home.

Any comments appreciated!

Is she trying to use both firewalls at once?

If so they will conflict this is probably the source of the error message.

Rule 1 firewall one AV and as much anti spy as you want. Good choice of protection she has there.

Hello Fruit Bat

No - she's only using XP's firewall because the Sygate Firewall keeps crashing. I mentioned this because it is essential to have one firewall working.

She's tried to remove Sygate (to then reinstall) but she says she is unable to remove it as the system gives her an error message concerning networking. She has no other computer and is not networked.

Might this be something to do with the "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close" error?
