I run Windows 98SE, Outlook Express 6 and Internet Explorer 6. 800mgh 128RAM 30GB hdd (only 30% used so far).

This afternoon whilst viewing the Public Records Office web site for the 1901 Census suddenly got the BSOD. Havent had one of these for a year. Message read:

A fatal exception OE has occurred at 016F:BFF9DFFF. Current application will be terminated.

Then got a black screen with the message:

IEXPLORE caused a general protection fault in module KRNL386.EXE at 0001.000001a8

I then had to reboot to get the system working.

I have run an anti-virtus check (AVG) and nothing showed up. The only other applications I had open were Outlook Express. I did have a floppy in my floppy drive, but it wasnt open.

Can anyone please advise what happened?

When I think about it the messages told me what happened - but does anyone know why it should happen?
