General Protection Fault KRNL.386.EXE

  pjt 01:29 20 Jun 04

OS: Win 98 SE; IE6.

Problem: OE6 opens and is fine but when I try to open the browser I get
the following message

IEXPLORE caused a general protection fault in module KRNL.386.EXE >> and
then I get the BSD and the `puter crashes.
I reboot and it is OK for a time and then it comes back again on changing a page.

Tried Repair etc but to no avail. Did a search in Google for KRNL.386.EXE
but it did not help very much. Nor did Microsoft KB.

Any help would be appreciated.

The same thing happened to me on Saturday night (19/06/04) after I had clicked on link from a thread on PCA. I looked for info. which seemed to point to a bug of some sort. I did a full A/V scan, which showed nothing, installed a previously known good registry backup, did a repair to IE6 and finally a full scandisk. I also had come up a 'low on resources warning'. Thank goodness it seems to have settled down again now.
