Hi, everybody, I'm thinking of buying a Gateway computer but would like some of your opinions. I have had a Gateway computer many eons ago, but that was before they acquired eMachines. The model in question is the GT5042b and although has XP, is Vista capable.

The one I'm hoping to switch from is a Packard Bell with only 256MB RAM and 20GB hard drive.

Will this Gateway be enough for simple browsing, downloading music and running Vista when or if i aqcuire it? I have no idea how much power Vista will require.

Thank you, cowgirl66

I would be advise increasing the memory to 1Gb. Should be OK then for your requirements running Vista.

Here is the spec:

My son has had a gateway laptop for several months now, from Staples, and is very plaesed with the build quality and operation.

Have a look at Tesco online. They have several gateway baseunits for sale with beter specs. than the one you are considering. Some now come with Vista installed as the OS.
