Fujitsu siemens lifebook ,p3,256 ram,30gig hdd.
Has no cd rom or floppy drive.I want to format the drive to put win98 on.I have a ext cd rom & floppy drive ,but it will not boot to it.The ext usb floppy drive is enabled in the bios.It will come up with floppy drive error when booting.
Any ideas ?

There are a number of ways of doing this but the one I find the easiest is:

partition the disk,

copy the Win98 to the second partition (D drive) to a folder called Win98

boot with the floppy

format C (Only)

switch to D drive

type d:\win98\setup

That will run the setup program and install Win98.

Another option which may well work is to boot with the Win98CD. Or try a bootable CD from the net, bootdisk.com for example.

The problem is that it will recognise the ext usb floppy drive but will not boot from it.Also there is no provision in the bios for a cd rom drive. Any more ideas ?
