Fujitsu siemens Scaleo 600 PC crashed

My pc has crashed & I donn't want to use the recovery disk as I will lose all the data on my harddrive.
I downloaded a boot-up floppy disk from Fujitsu site but the pc does not recognise it. The pc tries to open in safe mode but fails.
It is a 1.6 ghz 256mb 40gb using XP home edition.
Any suggestions much appreciated.

Check the BIOS is set to boot from floppy and then try the disk you got from Fujitsu.

The way to check the BIOS differs from machine to machine, but is likley to tell you to "press del to enter setup" - have a look when restarting.
