I'm not sure that this is the right forum but....

The company I am working for have a problem with FTP transfers from clients not being received and are trying to establish why.

Is it possible to calculate how many 56k modems can be connected to a 2Mb pipe at any one time?

large, and are they server to server transfers, or browser to server?

The files are normally around 1mb but can be up to 2mb. They would be server to server.

The transfers are usually run off a scheduler overnight, so the clients are unaware that their transmissions did not get through.

On our server we get MSFTPSVC warning messages in the NT Event Viewer. These are usually:

EventId 10: User ...... has timed out after 240 seconds of inactivity.

EventId 16: File received from user ...... has timed out.

We are wondering whether these timeouts are occurring because the 2mb internet connection we have cannot cope with the number of FTPs that are attempted concurrently at certain times.

Hence the question, is there a way of calculating how many 56k modems would be able to connect at the same time.
