Freezing on start

  geedad 12:26 01 Jul 07

I have experienced my PC freezing after a short boot up time, freezing at the 'click on your user name'.
I needed to close down and restart, but had to do that twice before I could get full boot.
Windows XP Home Sp2. 3GHz. Intel Pentium 4 HT.
ATI Radeon 9200.
Anyone had this same problem?

I have had this problem with 2 different reasons. On 1 pc it was the hard drive dieing. On the other pc it was the cpu heat sink full of muck and fluff. Worth opening the case and looking to see if messy and/or fans not working.

Thanks for your response, I will take a look at that although I have recently had a look inside the PC, and it all looks clean and dust-free.

The RAM seems faulty, try replacing one stick of RAM at a time, and booting each time to see if the problem remains, to see which one may be faulty, if it seems none, then well.. none. lol

How do I do that?
