My PC is self built and is about 6 years old. The network card went, which I replaced.(Did it before new card went in) Since the card failed when I start up the computer it stops almost straight away with the screen showing the processor and no more. I restart the PC and there is no problem after that. Any ideas. Thanks

Check the BIOS to see if there's a boot from LAN option that has somehow been triggered by the fitting of the new card and disable it.

This is a Driver fault, it may be trying to use old driver for new card. So try uninstall Network card in Device Manager then restart computer for it to load the correct driver

Have tried that and restarted PC. Went OK but will try it a couple of times to check. Thanks woodchip for your help
