Freeware to recover corrupt Word file?

I've been working away from home on a large Word document on my wife's Vista Home Premium laptop, using Word 2000.

The file was opened from a USB stick drive, and when I tried to save the modified file back to the stick, I received a report that the drive was in use (it wasn't), then the file corrupted. Instead of 14 pages of English it now shows 2 pages of what appear to be Chinese characters.

I've looked in the Word Autosave folder, and there's nothing there.

This isn't a disaster, because I have the original of the file on my computer at home, but it would be handy if I could recover it now.

Does anyone know of a free download that might be able to do this, please?

Recuva did it! It's a previous version of the file, with a few changes missing, but only a few minutes work to reinstate them.

Thanks again. Much appreciated.
