Having just read €dstowe's `Please Read this even though it may be Boring` thread, I thought people might want to check out an example of the above - DriveImage XML V1.00 (click here) - less user friendly and with fewer features than the commercial packages but still useful.

• DrvImagerXPwpe is specifically designed to run within WinPE. Unlike typical backup programs that copy files, DrvImagerXPwpe makes backups (image files) of NTFS and FAT32 drive partition structures (as well as floppy disks), for the Windows 2000/XP operating systems, by copying, byte-for-byte, the drive partition sectors. And when not using file compression, can do this very quickly, much faster than copying files.

I'll keep rummaging thru my files,I have a selection of backup tools(most if not all freeware)that I've collected over time, although a recent screw-up with FreeBSD wiped my HD but I still have these files on a DVD-RW somewhere. ;-))
