Free antivirus or malwarebytes premium sufficient

I am revamping an old laptop with the original intention of giving it away, but have astounded myself at the speed of the unit now and am having second thoughts about disposing of it. I have no wish to spend any money on it as it is not justified. Currently the laptop has Malwarebytes Premium installed.

Any thoughts on this as the only protection,or would I need also a dedicated antivirus (free)??

Definitely AV as well.

Avast free

Yep, MBAM & Avast Free is the combination I have as far as security is concerned.

I have the same as Gordon Freeman (MBAM Premium in my case). Plus occasional SAS and ADWCleaner scans.

Avast for an old machine with a backup scan from Malwarebytes and ADWcleaner

will keep it clear of nasties.
