I have a number in one cell and a word in another. What I want is the the first letter of the word to come after the number. i.e 1.2 is in B1 and Steve is in A1 so that I get 1.2S and so on. Thanks. (Numbers and words vary).

I assume you're talking about an Excel sheet? You could do with spending a little more time on your questions, it is really not very clear what you need.
Do you mean you want a 3rd cell where the number and initial letter are joined together?

If 3rd cell is required option simply place
=B1&LEFT(A1,1) in C1

I thought it was quite self explanatory. What else could I be referring to. If you don't like the way I put my question don't take the time to answer it!

Thank you, I shan't again.

Just for the record, this will also work

=B1&LEFT(A1)

When people try to help, it really helps if you can clarify points when they ask you to. Your attitude really deserved Picklefactory's response and I don't blame him in the least. You are lucky you got any reply at all if this is how you thank people!
