Formatting secondhand computer

Just got a secondhand computer from my work. Information on hard drive was wiped clean 7 times. It appears to have a partitioned drive and when I put in ME setup disc and cd I get a message -

Cannot create a temporary directory. If you have HPFS or NTFS installed on your hard drive you will need to create an MS-DOS boot partition to set up Windows.

I have never worked with partitions before and not sure what to do next. Should I keep the partitions or delete one and just have one drive.

The computer is for my daughter's school work and I think it has 2Gb on one partition and 3Gb on the other partition and I have no idea what else it has apart from an Intel Celeron processor.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, star5
