Formatting prob

I was re formating a oc fire ball 15gb hardrive for a friend when i tried to format using c:\>format c: it came up with eroor wrong media type or an error message very close to that one i hope domebody will help as im not to keen on buyin a new hardive

Are you starting from the DOS prompt itself ? and not from within windows.

that the hdd has been recognised correctly. If so download the ultimate boot disk and boot the pc from that. you should then have no troubles.

coogs, starting from floppy should leave an a:\> on screen. if so, then type C: and press enter, this will give you the C:\> from this prompt. add as below, the C:> is already there so just type in the *Format and C:* looks like I have put on next line.

C:/>format c:

Notice the space between format and c, it should work. Hope I'm not telling you things that you already know. Regards. J.

I suggest you delete any existing partitions first, then redo the partitions, using fdisk.

Then do the format. You should run the format from the A prompt, as the format program is on the A disk.
