formatting my hard drive

hi im looking for help as my computer wont start up and im looking fro someone to tell me how i would reformat my hard drive?? any ideas??

Try booting into Safe mode and select "Last known good configuration." option. TC.

i have a emachines 3220 with the motherboard model intel d834epi. my computer starts up and when the black screen comes on which shows the windows xp logo and the loading bar,after a few seconds the computer retarts and continues in this cycle continously. i have tried everything to reinstalling xp,which states 'failing to read drive R' does anyone have any ideas??ive also replaced the lithium battery on the motherboard and nothing looks out of the ordinary on the bios settings or know how to reset my hard drive or motherboard?
