If it's for XP, let XP do it all for you.

Before you even considering this you should make sure you have your windows disk, all the driver disks and have backed up all you want to save.

FORMATING DESTROYS NEARLY EVERYTHING.

If you have x\p then make your first boot option c\drom in the bios. Cold boot and it will show you how.

If you have win 9x, then one of the easiest ways is to use a 98 boot floppy. This will work for 95, 98 and ME.

Turn computer off.

Insert floppy and boot up.

It should read off floppy straight away, if it does not post back.

Pick start computer with c\d rom support.

This will eventually bring you to A:
Now type after this so it says. A:\ format c:

Note the spaces. Press enter. It will warn you that this will remove all data.

If you wish to proceed type y and enter.

It will now format your C drive.

click here is a direct link to an article on reformating and reloading Windows, it's in acrobat format, so you'll need reader to see it. I used it when i reformatted the first time and keep a copy on file as a reminder sheet.
