Formatting and Embedded Commands in MS Word

Those as old as me who remember Wordstar will have been used to being aboe to turn embedded commands and formatting on and off so that you could see why your document was behaving in a certain way.

How can you get a similar capability in MS Word. Editing leaves hundreds of hidden commands embedded in a document and you only have to delete a small passage and find that you have deleted a closing command and all the formatting of subsequent paragraphs goes out the window.

I am looking for something like the ability to see the underlying HTML on a web page.

Either click the "backwards P" toolbar button or if that is not there then Tools/Options, View tab and tick "All" in Formatting Marks.
