Formatting C drive, part not recognised

Allan RISC OS user 22:29 05 Mar 03

I have partitioned my C drive using Mandrake Linux, but it took the whole drive, I have now after great problems managed to recover 28Gbs of it but still have a linux partition, which I am now not able to remove, Linux will install, but after a few times using it I am advised that some of the home and boots files have been lost or are not present, and I have to re install.

The C drive is fragmented in to C D and E, D and E appear to be the same sectors, and E over laps the linux drive.

When I try to re install Windows Me from the recover discs I am first advised that the media in the C drive is not recognised, but if I continue to press r or f for retry or finish, or the enter key formatting will start but only the C part of the hard drive is seen the rest is not.

Partition magic does not appear to help, and Ranish seems to show about 10 partitions, and again this does not help.

How can I get my 40 Gb back.

Please Help!!!!!!
